Some people never do anything half-way. When they set out to do something, they do it all the way and make sure its perfect. Fortunately for me, Julie & Pieterjan are these kind of people. :)

Having done a really fun engagement shoot in Paris with Julie & Pieterjan, and collaborating on the graphic design for the invitations, ceremony cards, menus etc, I got to experience first hand how much love, time and effort they invested in creating an amazing wedding day.

When after many months of planning their big day finally rolled around, it was safe to say that all their effort paid off big time! The ceremony led by Ine from Stories by Mabel featured many beautiful anecdotes and testimonies, leaving few dry eyes in the audience of friends and relatives.

The staff at the excellent L’Auberge du Pecheur made sure the rest of the festivities were up to an equally excellent standard, and the tunes by DJ Tom made sure the party kept on going until the wee hours. But by all means, don’t take my word for it and have a look below at the story of Julie & Pieterjan’s special day. :)

My penultimate wedding of 2016 was one for the books or ermm… blog! :)  Lore & Thomas’ wedding day started out in their apartment in the center of Antwerp, where Lore and her bridesmaids at gathered to get ready (and do some early day boozing). :) From there, an almost 100 year old car drove them to the Antwerp city hall, where -after getting an explanation of the impressive artwork that decorates the wedding hall- they exchanged their official I do‘s. A really beautiful ceremony at the St Paulus church ensued, including some very touching moments as Lore & Thomas exchanged their heartfelt wedding vows and later when the priest asked everyone to hold hands and pray together. We then ventured over to ‘t Eilandje, where, thanks to some engagement shoots I had shot earlier, we were able to get quite a lot of shots I was happy with in the 20-30 minute time period we had at the MAS museum.
Later, the wedding day festivities moved over to Salons De Groene Jager in Brasschaat where the guests were treated to aperitif, delicious buffets and later an equal amount of drinking and dancing. Hope you enjoy their story as much as I enjoyed capturing it! :)

I keep being surprised at how small the world can be, at times. In this case it was demonstrated when it turned out that, completely independent from each other both Elisabeth & Michaël and their good friends Shana & Robin had booked me to shoot their wedding. The good thing about that, was that next to doing an engagement shoot in London, I got to hang out with Elisabeth & Michaël one more time before their wedding, during Shana & Robin’s wedding. After all this, I had little doubt their own wedding would be nothing short of amazing, and knowing that Kim from Absolutely Fabulous Weddings  was planning and styling their wedding day, that suspicion was only amplified.

I think it’s safe to say the reality didn’t disappoint. The day started out in Elisabeth & Michaël’s loft, where the whole wedding party gathered before heading off to city hall. After the official documents were signed, we headed over to the beautiful moated castle of Horst for the wedding portraits. The religious ceremony took place at the quaint Roesenberg chapel, where everyone witnessed a beautiful ceremony, witty and moving testimonies, and an impressive musical performance by Michaël’s friends and band mates.

After enjoying some bubbles & froyo, the wedding party headed over the ‘Kasteel van Hoen’ for the second part of the festivities, which included a lovely dinner, a water fountain spectacle and dancing until the wee hours of the morning…

Before you start scrolling down, please hit the ‘play’ button below and check out the beautiful cover of Gavin James’ ‘Book of Love’, which Michaël friends Thomas & Roel made specifically for this occasion… Impressive stuff! :)

OK, it’s not easy not to talk about this wedding in superlatives, because what can you say when two dear friends of yours get married, looking absolutely radiant, at a stunning location on a beautiful day? Maybe if their ceremony wasn’t totally perfect, filled with humor, wit, poetry, music, and heartfelt vows, that would be something I’d keep quiet about, but nope… Maybe if the speeches were boring, or the party was only so-so, I wouldn’t have to express myself in a way that makes it sound like I must be sucking up to Lies & Dokus… but again, no luck. :) I truly had an amazing time capturing the story of this wedding day as it was unfolding, getting to witness so much love, friendship and kindness, that it makes your heart smile, and it simply makes you feel happy and honored to be part of it all. Being a wedding photographer really is the best job ever, and hopefully the story of Lies & Dokus’ wedding day, set in sunny Bavaria, will illustrate what I mean… Enjoy! :)
